love is in the details...and the sweets.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

Appropriately so, I am sitting here writing and eating my favorite macaroons in the world. Thank you, Lan at The Last Touch Bakery!! Hope each of you indulge in a sweet treat on this Valentine’s Day!

Sweets are always trending in the planning business. Wedding guests especially take notice of the sweets (before and after they eat them!), and I love how desserts can play up other details, say something about the couple, and be a perfect finish to a great meal. So many of the couples I’ve worked with want non-traditional cakes or opt for playful dessert bars. Traditional wedding cakes are such an expense, and alternatives can still have a striking visual impact and often cater to more tastes.

  • These cakes have pattern and texture and enhance the decor and theme of this event: modern meets vintage with pops of color.

  • For a rustic, wine country wedding, this cake is a perfect compliment and ties into the choice of succulent centerpieces.

  • An assortment of bite-sized cupcakes allows the couple to choose each of their own favorite flavors and encourages their guests to have at least one of each flavor.

  • These macaroons (thanks again, Lan) are an ideal detail. They add bold, terrific color, are uniquely pistachio and lavender honey flavored, and are perfect for the gluten-free bride and all her sweet-loving guests.
