Hello, True Emerald readers! I just came across a great article on Wedding Party (written by guest blogger host & toast) that I had to pass along!! It's a must-read for all brides-to-be, and as a wedding coordinator, I found it really spot on!

It's called DIY Do's & Don't for a Perfectly Balanced Wedding!

I am 100% behind the concept of DIY!! DIY touches can have such an elegant and personalized touch, but even if you want the feeling of yourself & your partner on every detail of your wedding, it does not mean that you have to do-it-yourself!! The reality is that brides and couples will have plenty to juggle during the weeks and hours before their wedding, so DIY-inspired projects should be delegated to someone you trust. As host & toast suggests, hire a wedding planner to oversee all the details, projects, and schedules, so you can enjoy your wedding day! And, after all, wedding planners like myself are DIY lovers and professionals!

WHEN NOT TO DIY

FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY

  • Chalkboards and Namecards: I agree that these DIY elements should be written by expert calligraphers! While your wedding planner might design the box for namecards or frame the chalkboards, the lettering of these will be ideal if you go with a professional calligrapher. These professionals are also available to make those unforeseen last minute changes.

  • Custom-made elements: After conceptualizing one-of-a-kind  elements, you might have to outsource your DIY project to get it done. While the DIYer in you might want to finish what you start, the best DIYers know when to get help to create memorable details like marquee letters that combine the couple's first initials or bottles of damn good wedding wine at each of your guest's table.

  • Execution!: In order for all of your DIY elements to really shine on your wedding day, they have to be placed with the same care that was taken to create them. The flower box centerpieces and  hand-written menus must be positioned so every table and setting looks exactly as you want! Here, of course, is where the wedding coordinator is key! She has seen to the creation of every detail and will be there to execute everything with poise and expertise!
